As of April 1, 2026, employers have been enabled to submit, through the “E-Sick Leave Employer” system, requests for the calculation of salary compensation during sick leave by electronic means. This constitutes a practically significant development within the broader digitalization of procedures relating to temporary incapacity for work.

Key changes for employers:

  • The introduction of this digitalized system abolishes the obligation to submit requests to the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) in paper form, which represents a substantial administrative relief for employers.
  • It is expected that the procedure for reimbursement of salary compensation during temporary incapacity for work will become more efficient, faster, and simpler from the standpoint of collecting and submitting the required documentation.
  • The electronic exchange of data contributes to reducing the risk of delays in processing, as well as the possibility of technical and administrative errors.
  • The system is designed so that only data relevant for the exercise of rights and the conduct of the procedure are exchanged, without granting the employer access to information concerning the employee’s diagnosis, thereby safeguarding the confidentiality of health data.
  • The new rules do not apply to sick leave opened prior to the commencement of this system; accordingly, for such cases, it will remain necessary to submit documentation in paper form.
