Law on fire protection (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia” No. 111/2009)

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has passed on December 29th, 2009 the Law on fire protection (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia” No. 111/2009, hereinafter “the Law”) that will be applicable after the nine months period since the entry into force, that is on October 7th 2010.

Companies are obliged to prepare measures for planning, financing, organizing, undertaking and control of measures and actions aimed at fire protection. They also have to prepare measures for assistance in eliminating consequences of fire. Company and other legal entities are obliged to make a recovery plan for elimination of consequences of fire.

Companies have to organize a basic training in fire protection for all employees, at the latest in the period of one year since the beginning of employment. Once in every three years company has to test employees.

If a legal entity does not make a recovery plan, it will be fined ranging from RSD 300.000 to RSD 1.000.000, and the responsible person will be fined ranging from RSD 10.000 to RSD 50.000 dinars. Also, the same fine will be imposed if a legal person does not provide preventive measures, does not create a Protection plan and Protection rules, highlight Evacuation plan, embed devices that on time detect fire, check installations and organize basic training of employees and test them in prescribed deadline.
