The newly released Consumer Price Index data for May 2025 provide insight into recent changes in household expenditure patterns in Serbia. In addition to tracking the prices of goods and services, these indices serve as a key indicator of inflation, i.e., the change in the general price level and the purchasing power of money.

As of May 2025, the monthly inflation rate stands at 0.2%, while the annual rate has increased by 3.8% compared to the same month in the previous year. Relative to December 2024, this reflects a 1.7% rise in prices.

Price increases have been recorded in several key categories, including:

  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, restaurants and hotels, clothing and footwear, food and non-alcoholic beverages;
  • Health, housing, water supply, electricity, gas and other fuels, recreation and culture.

Conversely, a decrease in prices has been observed in the transport sector, while other categories have remained relatively stable without significant fluctuations.

The aforementioned data suggest that inflationary pressures continue to impact everyday consumption. Consequently, monitoring such economic indicators is of material importance for individuals, companies, and institutions engaged in economic, financial, or strategic decision-making.
